Always used the tool on multiple cars and never had a problem. Why does everything look so easy on You Tube?

The question is whether he would have have that error by using the tool? As mbrian states the TCM and ECM share the power source in series with TCM being number 1 so it is more than likely a pin pressure issue.
Removing TCM on a working car and seeing what Vida comes up with would be interesting.

I believe the ECM still gets power and ground if the TCM is removed: it's the connections to CANbus that are severed. With the ECU off the network the immobilizer system can't complete it's system checks, injectors and spark will never fire. Immobilizer function is shared between the ECU, CEM, and UEM. This is so that a thief would have to completely tear apart the vehicle, replace all three modules, and potentially reprogram everything in order to drive a vehicle away under it's own power.

So theft rates are lower overall, but determined thieves now resort to carjacking. 20+ years ago owners rarely if ever came in direct contact with thieves, but interacted strictly with law enforcement. Which in most cases doesn't result in the owner's life being threatened at knife/gunpoint.

Did you clean the connector when you had the ECM out?

There is a special tool to remove both the ECM and TCM without damage. Hopefully you used the proper tool.
If you can remove the ECM and TCM again, inspect the terminals for any damage or misalignment. Perhaps you can straighten any pins that are bent. Be very careful.
With the pins inspected and straight, the modules are pushed straight down to fully make contact.
