Re: Restoration: I Bought the Cheapest Running 98 V70 T5M (2023)
Some updates: Haven't done much in the way of maintenance since the last update. Turns out my evap large leak was due to some unsavory individual stealing my gas cap after failing to siphon the tank.
I guess I should fix the fuel door latch.
This morning though, the starter decided it's no longer interested in cooperating. Turn key, hear the starter start to engage but jams like a stuck engine. Then I hear something else click which renders the starter inoperable for some time (is there a thermal breaker on the starter circuit?). Turn the key again and all I get is a relay click. Tried banging on it, same behavior. Getting battery voltage at the starter and the ground seems to be good. Looks like I need to hit up the parts car. Thank goodness it's a manual, so I can still drive it.

Check the short cable between the large cylinder and small one on the starter. It corrodes and breaks. Terrible design to leave a weak spot like that when everything else seems solid.

So I managed to get a good used starter swapped in from a 2000 P80. Took about 2 hours and all I removed was the battery (do I get an award for not pulling the fan shroud?). Starter sounds like it has a lot more umph now. Had the old starter tested, and it arced out on the tester. Will save for a rebuilder. 327,000 miles.
Trying to get the rough center console swapped in from a 2000 XC, but the connector for the accessories is different. I just wanted a 12V outlet back.
