Volvo v70 TCM cloning?

Post by paikas »

Hy from Estonia.

I ran is to a problem with my v70 2016 2.0 180Kw with TG-81SC auto box.

The main problem is that it haes CNG device on it, so the coolant hoses are spliced to run coolant thru the CNG reductor. but as usually, they are made out of plastic and it brakes. so one of the hose started leaking, and cause of it being under the battery box there were no clue of it.

The problem it made was a lot worse. Coolant was triping on to the TCM, so the TCM failed.

Failure process was as follows: was driving the car and suddenly poped up message that the gearbox usage is limited. ok it haed done that once before and it cleared with vida after, so did not worry about the message then. But when i parked the car the car would not shut off and haes text saying put gear lever in park. but it was in park, so my daily plans were fucked. drove the car home, parked it to garage and started to figure out what the F ... is going on. hooked up Vida. and there is a light show with no comunication to TCM on most modules, park/neutral position failure, gearbox stuck and fluctuating between 1 and 3 gear, Gear lever in Park second sensor in Drive, Starter signal short to ground and such. First thougth was to check the wiring. All good it took me 4 hours to fysicaly unwrap and check and after rewrap those wires.

wrote that all up in estonian volvo fans facebook group and got only one responce. a guy texted me and first question was is it a CNG car.
So i Answered, yes it is and then he said that to check the TCM it haes probably coolant damage. then i remembered that when i was checking the wires the coolant tees to rout the coolant to CNG regulator are exactly on top of the TCM, so went to the garage and removed all things on top of the TCM (when it is an CNG car it haes some stuff there) and yes the TCM is a bit wet from coolant, so first i fixed the coolant system and then i tried another TCM. And the car works.... sort of. cause of the TCM is from another car it contains another SW.

car is mostly driveable, but it BANGS gears like crazy and some of the faults staid.

ECM-P085100 Park / Neutral Switch Input Circuit Low
TCM-P081711 Starter Disable Circuit/Open - General Electrical Failures - Circuit short to ground
ECM-250F68 No match
TCM-P061400 ECM / TCM Incompatible

So is there a way to clone the SW from my old TCM to the new(er)?

You have different adaptations with the new TCM. Different oil quality counter and different adaptations. I've also wondered of a way to back up TCM adaptations to test out what would happen if I reset them, and if the car ran worse I'd restore the backup. But, I never got around to doing that, other things are a bigger priority now.

Since you have installed a different TCM. First try clearing the Oil Degradation/Oil Quality counter(it is different from adaptations). If this does nothing, you have nothing to lose by resetting the adaptations of your new TCM, since they hardly apply to your own gearbox.

Is CNG less expensive than LPG? I am surprised as most of Europe installs LPG system instead of CNG, which exploded in price a while back.
