2012 c70 Power Steering Pump programming

Post by Filenotfound »

I am a new owner of a 2012 c70. I’m working through various issues with it due to historical neglect. This is my first experience of electric power steering pump. The pump seems to be very whiny at slow speeds but is drowned out above 20mph.

First question. Is this normal and if so is there any recommendation on how to make it quieter? E.g. sound deadening.

Second question. While researching a replacement pump, I notice Vida says to “Order and download software according to: 30667183”. Is that necessary?

Thanks.

Apparently new software is required, so it may be worth just changing out the bearings, if that’s the issue.

I was going down that path and bought the bearings, but discovered the rubber bushing between the pump and the mount were questionable. They seemed in good condition. The were not hard, but it seems they have taken a permanent set and no longer isolate the pump vibration. I improvised some plastic washers to effectively make them taller and that cured the high pitch whining.

Problem solved.
