problems

Post by les & reilly »

hello,
a common problem is the pcv box / or oil seperator and breather pipes this is situated under the inlet manifold. i believe they should be changed as there was a recall on this particular piece. it can also make the autp box go into pimp home mode. if you phone up your dealer and give them your car details, they should be able to tell you if this job has been done by a volvo dealer.

I've never heard of a recall on it. If you know of the recall number/information, I would be very happy if you would post it and I will add it as a sticky. The PCV system is suppose to be "cleaned" at 60K miles but rarely ever is. By the time it becomes an issue at around 100K or more, it no longer can be cleaned due to the "hard as plastic" rubber hoses and has to be replaced. We have a good write-up on PCV system (the oil separator that you mention with all of its related hoses including the PTV valve hose that connects with a banjo connection at the bottom of the accordion air intake pipe) overhaul in the repair database as well as many posts with pictures regarding the procedure on this site. On-line parts suppliers have even begun selling "kits" (ie: www.fcpgroton.com ) for the entire replacement, partially due to our relationship with them and because we constantly ask them for all of the individual parts.

oil trap recall
creates a whistling noise and trips the gearbox into limp mode.

check out www.vosa.gov.uk recalls.

maybe see if its the same in us ?

of course, volvo dont write and tell you, they would go bust/bankrupt if they didnt get our money !!!
