Installed 18" Rims on my V70

Post by befarrer »

Finally got some tuner lug bolts so that I can install these used rims I bought. Rims are 18", tires are P235/40R18 Toyo R compound tires. They fit nice on the AWD. I like the way the gold rims look against the metallic red.

I also swapped my back seats out for some tan V70R Alcantara seats, just have to clean the Alcantara, white interiors, pain the the butt.

Nice wheels my friend! Hope they stand up to our pot-holed roads and don't get bent with those strips of rubber wrapped around them!

I have to take my 17's in for a check. The boss is complaining of a vibration at over 80kph. I tried swapping the wheels but it is still there and the alignment is good as is all the steering parts and suspension. The 17" that came with the car had 2 that were bent on the inside lip.

Good Luck!

I ended up with another set of rims that fit, they were supposed to fit another vehicle, but bolt pattern was wrong. The 18" rims do actually rub a bit on the rear inner fender and front at full wheel lock. The tires are also incredibly whiney over 40km/h, and that sticky after driving to the point I can't turn the steering wheel unless I am moving. I put these 17" rims on, they have 235/45R17 tires. What do you think, which ones does everyone like better?

Do 235's not rub as well? That is the standard size on some P2 models. I run 225/45/17's on my car and that mostly works ok provided I don't fully extend the rear wheel travel as the inner side of the rims (49mm offset over P80 43mm) can catch on the inner frame.

Again depending on the offset of the rims, the fronts can potentially rub on the strut on the inner side and rub the fender liners on full lock.

Mine used to be fine until the dealer replaced the front sub-frame mounts and now it rubs on one side only.

AS to which I prefer, I think the gold rims look better with your car color, but then I also never was a fan of the split rims style wheels. Don't like all those small bolts.

What tire pressure do you run? I run 36 psi all around and it has not worn the middle of the tires, they are actually running with even wear.

I prefer the gold rims myself too. I was running 235's on my 17" R rims before with no rubbing issues. I don't know the offset of either rims. I think the AWD cars can run wider tires since the rear suspension cambers in on compression and tucks in the rear fenders.

The inside of the tires on too much offset will rub on the inner fenders. FWD cars have the issue on the rear with the parking brake cable which runs very close to the rear of the tire on a normal correct tire/rim combo.

Beautiful car.
A short time after i bought my car i saw a red Volvo parked at the dollar store. I just had to look at it. Now i see that i think i have an affinity for red Volvos (funny, but true). Mine is silver, not too bad, but kind of dull looking compared to the red of that car.
I think i see a hint of a star light lens too :D
I’ve been driving a Volvo long before anyone ever paid me to drive one.
That's probably because I've been driving one since 2015 and nobody has offered to pay me yet.

Tinting the rear windows really made the car look much better as well, but I agree on the red, my car is the metallic red, and a darker shade.

The gold wheels look great with the red (is that Regent Red?). The red has an atypical hue to it, like a peach color, which I love and the gold really compliments that. However, permanent rubbing on the rear is no good. Rubbing on the front at full lock can be avoided, but not on the rear. My rear shocks are so worn out that speed bumps bottom out and cause the tires to rub the wheel arch plastic, and the plastic wore through in one spot. Had to get new plastic from a junkyard (to install once I replace the shocks).
