Re: Steering rack input shaft seal. Am I crazy?
I’m glad you were able to get through it! One thing I did do to help get the high & low pressure lines in was remove the two screws that hold the pinion housing to the rack so I could rotate the cap a bit to help align those fittings so they screwed in fine, then put the screws back in.

I finished up in about a half hour the next morning. Sadly my wheel is not straight even though I left the passenger side wheel on the ground and the steering wheel locked. Unsure how that happened, but I *think* I can just move the steering wheel on the splines inside the car... The rack has full travel from side to side still it seems. I had a scare where I had some fluid drips in the garage after a drive, but I think it was just excess fluid that had drained onto the subframe and surrounding areas during the job, because I don't see any fluid on the rack area where it was before, and after a drive in the rain I didn't get any more drips overnight.
Thanks for the info on the input shaft seal swap DonnVa!
EDIT: as of 02/15/2024 my leak is still gone. I ended up moving the steering wheel on the column splines to center it, although it was still very slightly off so an alignment was needed. I do believe this work caused me to have a steering clunk due to a change in pinion/rack preload with the replacement of the bearing at the shop, so be cognizant of that! I replaced many items until finally replacing the steering u-joint (which did have a small amount of play), and tightening the rack preload by 2 increments with the adjuster on the rear driver's side (US) of the rack. The popping/clunking at parking speeds has finally subsided.
