2000 s80 clunk, not struts or spring seats, any ideas?
Hi, 2000 s80, owned since new, well maintained, has a front end clunk mostly left side, at about 105 K I did 4 disc, all pads,f&r sway bar links, oem struts, oem spring seats, upper motor mount, all tie rods,, also right caliper as pads were wearing crooked and caliper was scraping inside wheel, so I assumed bad caliper bushings, seems to resolve that, BUT clunk still there! I read about subframe bushings, as well as o rings of some kind. Car now has 128K on it still a clunk! i rechecked strut seats w/ wrench while car was on ground, seem fine. Any ideasa? thanks

you might of already done this, but if not, it is a common issue on the v70/s70 series and looking at my s80, the "a" frame wishbone bushes and balljoint may need renewing.
good luck,
get back and let us know how you got on.

Mysterious clunking noises in the front end are often the rear subframe bushings. The clunking is fixed by a couple of o-rings that go around the bushing and get wedged between the subframe and the body. This prevents the rear bushings from moving around and "clunking".
I did a write up a while back on replacing them:

Good news is that they are only $22 from the Dealer for both of them and they come with new bolts.
Hope that helps.

it could also be the drop links, these are bars from your front anti roll bar to the supsension strut.
they often go slack, and are cheap and not too hard to change.
