93' volvo 244 won't start when warm

Post by Badger »

My 93 volvo 244 has 180,00 miles on it. Sometimes won't start after it's been running.Example stop to put fuel in it. Let it set for 2-3 minutes then will start. Yesterday would not start afer sitting all day at work. Sat for 24 hrs then started, shut it off and would not start again. No power at the fuse block on either side of #4 fuse which is the primary fuel pump fuse. I tried to jump it, pump works, good fuel pressure but won't start.

you really only get the fuel pump running when cranking so you have to be cranking when you measure it. Fuel pump relay is a possibility. It is located above passengers foot under carpet. Large white relay. You can fiick it a few times when problem occurs if it now starts replace relay.

I think it is more likely a ground problem or a coolant temperature sender. you have 2, one for gage one for fuel injection (it would be the fuel injection one) I think there are a bunch of grounds on top of the intake manifold (two or three places). Clean with emery paper and reattach. Check accordian hose going from air mass sensor to throttle body for holes where it rubs on the fender. If it is worn through you can fix with back electrical tape making good seal. If you have a hole it allows unmetered air and fouls things up. Let us know what you find.

That seems to have fixed it , but now it lossing power on acceleration after its warmed up, idles a little rougher than it use to. It sure dosen't have the power that my 83' 242 with 309,000 has. Badger
