2000 S70 Skid Plate Options?

Post by tjmartin317 »

First of all, thanks to everyone who helped with my parking brake debacle. I now have a 75% working parking brake, which is faaaar better than the 15% working parking brake I had before (I'm no longer afraid of hills. Joy upon joys!). I feel bad that I don't have the knowledge to help many others, but plenty of questions. The next one is centered around my dream to make Blue a rallycar.

After the first stock shakedown, the things that broke were the exhaust and some bushings. The bushings were properly fixed, the exhaust was hack-jobbed back into place (hanger at the tip came clean off... as did the exhaust tip... but I still have a muffler!). But me and my co-driver also noticed some significant scrappage of the plastic fuel tank. Nothing leaking, but enough where you could see what got scuffed and warrants the need of a skid plate.

The front didn't get scuffed... but for obvious reasons, a skid plate there would be important.

I need to get the car up on a lift and just poke around, but was wondering if anyone had thoughts or ideas on the topic before I just found some bolt holes and fabricated a sheet of metal (or some other better material. Carbon fibre is the obvious answer ;)

Hope you're all well. Volvo in VT for your time:

Okay, looked on IPD and found what I'm going to use for my front skid plate. Now I need help with the rear, because that gas tank can't get too battered or we're in trouble... would hate to ruin a day of rally for everyone with combustibles on the course.

A good set of IPD blue HD springs will help protect that gas tank first.

I do already have those springs! Didn't know if I wanted an extra layer of protection. Also got HD Bilstein shocks (the yellow ones, paired with the blue springs, to make the ultimate Swede suspension setup).

It's an awesome car with an incredible amount of miles. But it's time to make it a wacky racecar because, mechanically, he's in the perfect spot for rallying.
