VGLA code - can you obtain it yourself?

Post by V50M66 »

Looking to add remotes to my ‘98 V70 since it didn’t come with them and I’m getting sick of using the key in the door all the time. As far as I can tell, I can do this with the 850 OBDII app, but I need the 4-digit code for the VGLA (alarm module) before it’ll let me program a remote. Is there any way to obtain this myself? My research has gotten me nowhere aside from the typical “go to the dealer” responses, which I’m not doing because I don’t want to spend hundreds of $ to get a working remote.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You need cut Volvo systems between Volvo 850 and V70 (since 1997 V70) as V70 did bring new electronics including refreshed COMBI (dashboard/instrument panel), ECC, IMMO and new VGLA Alarm module (and others) so 850 and V70 are incompatible between each other due all refresh in systems. 1999 and 2000 was mixed bag some modules were still same as since V70 1997 models electronically.

VGLA Alarm eeprom is not encrypted as Japanese were lazier than BOSCH Australia.

The Volvo 850 (with relay at driver's foot area) ignition on off 5 times is not applicable for V70 VGLA alarm module system. Even remotes are different. At least many who has tried this not succeeded yet so far what i have heard.

But that VIDA subscription is one way too.

There are differences between NA and EU cars. I’ve successfully paired a remote in a 1998 without software on a North American model

I have an early build ‘98 and the key trick that supposedly works on 850s didn’t work for me

Hi, still looking at this as well, adding a remote on a 99' V70R. About to try to do a VIDA software update, but before that, is there still a way to do this using just the VGLA pin for those models? Or no?

If VIDA is needed, what's the software part number for adding such a remote? Thanks.

On a 99 in a North America you need both Vida and a connection amd subscription to the Volvo server

That's what I thought, thanks. Any idea on software P/N so I don't blow a VIDA subscription on accident?
