EVAP system not ready for smog test

Post by 98v70dad »

My battery went bad a week ago and I had to replace it. Of course, that resets the engine computer.

Unfortunately, I have to pass emissions testing next week. I have driven the car nearly 500 miles doing everything I can find online about drive cycles. All of the readiness flags are OK except EVAP. The tank is between 1/4 and 3/4 full each time. I do the drive cycles in the morning when its cool. I have no check engine light and no trouble codes. Every test that my scan tool monitors including a bunch of emissions tests results in PASS.

I cleaned the sealing surface on the gas filler neck and bought a new gas cap. I am at my wits end trying to get in 100% state of readiness. I'm driving this car to Canada in a few weeks and my registration expires during the time of my trip so I have to get this registered early. My car is a 2015 and I know that I can pass with one item not ready. But, my scan tool is unable to monitor 2 of the required readiness items and I have no idea if those two items are ready or not.

Anyhow, can anyone give me some ideas on what else to do to get it ready? I can always smoke test for leaks but I'm not getting a leak code and every test the car does (there are a lot of them) is noted as PASS.

On p80 platform ( I don’t know if p2 is the same)

Ac has to be off , don’t exceed 60 mph , gentle on throttle

Check to see if any evap codes are pending

It will only try to go ready 3x on a given drive cycle so if you violate any of the above during those attempts, the rest of the drive cycle won’t matter. It’s about a 15-20 minute window from start

The evap go ready is active during the “idle in drive while at 0 mph for 1-2 minutes “ part of the drive cycle
