Hello everyone, so I’ve got a bad engine in my 1999 v70 glt (2.4). Not many choices for engines around me at the moment. One of my options is a 2.4 out of a 2003 v70, I’ve read that this will work, I just won’t be able to plug in the vvt on the intake cam.
I was hoping someone may have experience to confirm this theory while it sounds like it may work id rather know before I put the work in.
A local parts recycler says that only a 1999 engine will work

You will have a check engine light if you don’t match the VVT configuration of the engines exactly, and you won’t get the best performance , either

You could always swap the heads, assuming the problem with your current engine isn't in the head.

Sadly the head is definitely an issue, possibly the block as well. And my thought was since I’m going to have an intake vvt plugged in then I shouldn’t have a CEL because that’s all the way 1999 has anyway. Then I’ll just have exhaust vvt that isn’t plugged in
