P80 NA heat riser manifold fix

If the supports for your heat riser box have gone to entropic heaven here is a cute fix with a pretty cheap hardware store part

3.5 inch on center , 4.5 inch deep u bolt , slightly bent in to clear holes in tin

What is a heat riser? It is not a term I am familiar with.

Remember way back in the day with V8's that had a corrugated tube that ran from the bottom of the air cleaner down to the exhaust manifold ? That is your " heat riser ". It was just to help warm up the fuel system in cold temps, by letting the heat rise up into the air cleaner, and get the choke off.

OK, pre-heat tube. That I know well, and only on NA's as per abscate's note. I still never understood why this was not added to the turbos which is what really needs it when it is cold up here as the intercoolers can freeze!

I managed to ice up a turbo throttle body exactly once in my life. HPT slow running in winter. Never happened again.

Up here P80's can suck the intercooler pipes flat trying to draw air through a frozen intercooler at -40C. Cardboard blanking plate behind the grille and parking the front of the car downwind can also help along with a block heater. You know this has hit you when you put the car in Drive or Reverse, press the gas peddle and the car does not pick up revs or move! Only way to fix is to let the engine run and defrost itself.
