2001 V70 Blower motor comes on with key turned off and not In ignition switch
My 2001 V70 sometimes I park the car and walk away and come back later to find the ac blower running at high speed. This is not the radiator fan, it’s the blower motor. Anyone experienced that, or have a clue what it might be? Twice it ran long enough to kill the battery!

It is a feature of the car to cool the electronics. It is normal after a drive in warm weather. However, it should stop after maybe a half hour. A strong battery can handle this. Mine (2001 V70) has always done this as well.
Also, if set the lock the car and the alarm is set, after 2 to 3 weeks even a strong battery will be drained.

It's to dry out the AC evaporator and to help prevent mold, mildew and bacteria growth in the evaporator, which is what causes the AC air to smell bad. It should not run long enough to kill the battery unless you have older battery on the way out.dchapman wrote: ↑22 Jul 2023, 17:09 My 2001 V70 sometimes I park the car and walk away and come back later to find the ac blower running at high speed. It's a feature Volvo calls "after blow" that is used to dry out the evaporator as First70volvo mentioned. The fan can cycle on and off for as much as an hour and can be heard from the front of the car usually after shutting off when the A/C has been used, ie: hot weather as we've been experiencing. I wouldn't describe the fan as being on high speed when this is occurring, maybe low to medium at best.
If you're sure its on high this might be a separate issue. Can you control the fan speed when this is happening? Does this happen when the car is cold?

The blower fan speed is wide open. I have to turn on the ignition key to make it stop. Good question about hot or cold. It did happen last winter too. My concern is that it doesn't stop on it's own like a timed cycle. It will continue running until switch is turned on, or the brand new battery dies.

If the blower motor is wide open and not turning off this sounds more like blower motor resistor may be on its way out.dchapman wrote: ↑24 Jul 2023, 12:55 The blower fan speed is wide open. This feature drives me nuts and I live in the dry, dry desert, so I always disable it in VIDA. But yes, I believe it's the default to have it on.
