Great site here the best resource I've found for Volvo.
The wifes 2000 s80 went to the dealer for dying at idle, surging and CEL.
She picked it up they did ECM "upgrade" for 271a.
Light came back by the time she got home. Opened up the hood and found a cracked hose on the intake, It's about 3/8" and has a device, that looks like a filter 2" before going into the intake (probably some sort of attenuator), the other end goes somewhere under the air intake box.
I fixed that and went back to the dealer the next day to complain,
They reset the CEL and pulled codes. He said it could be vauum leak, MAF,
o2 sensor.
The next day light came on again an Auto Zone pulled codes 1171 and 1181 which the board says vacuum, MAF and O2
P1171 = ECM-261A= Long-term fuel trim Upper limit
P1181 =ECM-271ALong-term fuel trim, bank 2 Upper limit
So 1) what is bank 2
2) I put a vacuum hand pump on the small tube (1/8") that goes from the intake to a little blue device in the air cleaner than out to a device at the bottom of the air intake that I suppose inducts preheated air.
The device inside the air cleaner is some sort of valve I suppose that changes state to open the diaphram for pre heat.
OK, so should that little blue "valve" hold a vacuum or not, mine doesn't it bleeds the vac off. Could that small amount of "leak" trip the DTC ?
hope this makes sense to somebody if you need a better explaination
let me know, Thanks Subdewd
dtc codes vac leak?
I found out the one device is a check valve, goes to the booster.
The other one actuates the preheat valve but I still don't know if it should be open to the airbox if it isn't acuating the preheat diaphram.
couldn't fint any other leaks with carb cleaner, so I ordered a MAF from FCP, beat the dealers price by 1/2!
Still if anyone could check aforementiond valve, please advise. thanks

Wow, got the MAF from FCP yesterday, shipped USPS priority mail for $5
great deal, ordered mon, got wed. Half the dealer price. I called dealer they said they could match, too bad, why not just be honest and give the best price upfront? Brentwood Weiss Volvo in St. Louis stinks, terrible techs, all they do is "upgrade software" and tell you it's fixed.
$135 to plug in the car for a minute, later you're still limping along,
Anyway, driven 20 miles so far all seems better, more power no CEL.
