1999 V70 - stalls and won't restart - throttle positon?

I have had the same intermittent ignition problem with '99 V70 wagon with 325K km for the last few years. The car has been meticulously maintained and is in excellent condition except for occasional breaks of unimportant plastic covers and such. Waiting and restarting several times usually allowed me to continue. The car never stalls when driving.
This time upon startup, it wouldn't restart. I noticed the post about the ignition ring, key and anti-theft as possible causes. I checked the housing behind the steering wheel and notice that it is cracked. It needs to be replaced. I didn't clean the ignition ring.
I tried a spare key. The car started and ran immediately.
I now believe my problem is connected to the anti-theft and will ask my mechanic or dealer to look into this thoroughly.

The antenna rings do crack with age and can become flaky. Strange that a 2nd key worked unless something was disturbed during your investigations. Did you re-try the first key again?

The keys have a simple chip in them. Unless they key has been damaged it is unusual for them to fail, but anything is possible. P2 key fobs are mor prone to failure when the small transducer fails in them.
