ID these parts and what they are for!

Post by scot850 »

Along the same idea as the 'Name that Rusty part', I thought we could add this mind teaser!

I was looking for a part today in my 'stash' and found a box I had not identified the parts in some cases or in other believe they may be mis-identified. I need help identifying these parts please so I can list them in my stash parts list correctly!

#1 - Identified as: 850 trunk latch. There is no part number on this part to help the ID. I do think it is from a P80 sedan. But help needed to confirm!

#2 - Identified as a Tailgate latch but for what? There is a part number on the actuator motor, but it seems to be used on cars from 98-07 if you believe the Volvo parts sites. I believe it is probably a 98-00 V70 or V70 XC with a 3rd row seat as it has the internal door handle that was fitted so the occupants could get out in case of an accident. I should add that I compared this to the old latch from my son's 06 XC70 and they look very similar with the exception of the actuator motor. They are in the same positions and almost look interchangeable (apart from the internal opening handle part).

#3 - Identified as a cam sensors, but I think it is actually a crank sensor. Manufactured by Denso but no other part number on part. It may be 850 or possible a later P80 (definitely P80) but no sure.

#4 - Only ID is a 4 button fob case. I don't use Volvo OE cases but must have bought this for one of my past P80's to replace a broken fob shell. What is this style of fob for? Part number appears to be 9166199 but that shows a 3 button case/fob. 91661200 I believe is for a 4 button fob?

Much appreciate all your eagle eyes on helping identify these parts so I can add to my parts list.

The key fob case looks like what I have for my 99 S70. Mine are replacements now.

Hatch parts look like early P2, if I remember correctly what mine looked like. I need a 2001 locking motor if you want to sell. I need to check my part number to confirm they are the same.

There may be a cross over between 99- P80 and early P2 parts. I think I would have bought it as a spare for my V70R but it is wrong from the interior handle which my car has not got. I was planning at one stage to fit a 3rd row seat and may have bought it for that. You can also buy the motor as a stand alone part from Volvo. It is the same part number you can see in the first picture. Might be cheaper than me sending it from here! I think I saw the motor for around $50-60.

I think you have one of each, a crank and cam sensor. If they are DENSO it will be written on the top

Maybe show the colour of the wiring harness on the connector ?

Thanks for the help. I am now fairly certain the first is a sedan latch, but the 2nd is I think a late P80 wagon latch as has been suggested for a car with the 3rd row seat option which had to have the interior handle to allow rear seat escape.

I know the P2 wagon tailgate latch has a different shape of the white plastic triangle section, but that may be partly due to the extra rod of the internal hatch release.

Abscate, both the sensors have Denso molded into them on the top of the can plastic housing. Both have the same wiring color as well red and white if I recall if that helps?

I have now answered my own question on item # 3 looks like it is a pair of crankshaft sensors. The difference is they only have 2 wires, a red and white. The camshaft sensor has 3 wires. a pair of black wires and a single red wire.

https://www.volvopartswebstore.com/prod ... 31754.html

This is the camshaft position sensor:

Getting there!

Appreciate the help!

I believe the item #1 was correctly identified as a 850 sedan lock mechanism part : 9152236

However, is the S70 part the same?

Thanks,

Feed that part number into the Volvo online parts webstore and look at the fitment tab….voila!
