Re: 2001 Volvo V70 2.4t car rolling in park after valve body change
I thought I had it, but it's still rolling in park. I was able to install the rod from the top and it seemed to"lock" right in. Do you know if there's a specific orientation that it must go in at? Meaning, is it okay to just get the selector back on the spring and rotate all the way clockwise (park)?

I can in terms of moving it all the way over. Lines up with pnp and gear selector anyway. It has to be just not engaging somehow. It seems like it needs to travel further in unless all the way takes more force than I'm applying. Is it possible to jam the rod in by hand to try and engage the pawl? I don't have it apart, but it's looking like I'll have to.

As Vtl suggested, remove the cable and rotate the shfiter lever by hand. You should be able to check if the movement and detent feel is correct in park and if he parking pawl is engaged. This is a simple mechanical linkage and unless the movement of the shifter lever is restricted somehow, which doesn't sound like the case the rod movement should engage the parking pawl. Looking at the photos the only thing I'm wondering about and I don't even know if this possible is if the actuating rod may have been installed with the rod outside the opening in the fork shaped guide plate, see photo. The end of the rod goes through an opening in the guide plate and I'm wondering if it's possible for the rod to be inserted outside the guide plate opening. From the photo you can see the rod is inside the opening in the fork shaped guide plate and I'm thinking it might be possible for the rod to be inserted and installed incorrectly above the top finger of the fork guide plate. This may be a long shot but there's not much that can go wrong with the parking pawl actuator rod install. If the rotation of the shifter lever isn't restricted in any way and the actuator rod isn't bent or damaged there's no reason the parking pawl shouldn't engage unless it's not installed correctly. I'm assuming there's no damage to the rest of the parking linkage mechanism because the problem only started after valve body replacement.Dgrabke wrote: ↑07 Aug 2023, 14:24 I can in terms of moving it all the way over. Thanks for the reply. I agree with everything you said, which is why it's so frustrating. I'm going to try and rotate it into low with the pnp off and gently press down on the post while rotating it back into park to see if I can wiggle it enough to engage correctly. I don't really see how I could have installed it wrong...it can only go in one way once you get it back on the spring. 100% positive the rod wasn't damaged, nor the internals as the only pressure applied was via the selector.
Can you verify the position of the post when in park? Mine seems to be dead center perpendicular. I don't really see how, but wondering if I somehow oriented it where I'm missing one of the detents....just spitballing.
