Broomstick to install a BMW CCV... lemme guess... it was the cold weather version? I had a hell of a time with one of those. Next time a customer brings me one of those, the intake manifold will be coming off. I know better than to go for the cold weather version on my own cars

Spent a few hours this afternoon cleaning up yet another SC-901 head unit, amp and cable rescued from the last junkyard run, as well as another repaired cable and amp. I had also pulled a few of the small dash speakers as I need 2 to make up a full set of speakers for a C70 that were missing from the car I got the rest from. Just need a rear side panel small 'tweeter' which for some reason was missing from the car. Even have the 200W amp!

Then dug out the speaker test system and power supply as I needed to eject the 3-CD cassette and I could see the previous owner had left a CD in the unit. Removed the disc and the CD-cassette and found 'The Wall' by Pink Floyd and a 'Best of Classical music' disc.

Once the unit was cleaned including the cassette and CD player (laser) I reconnected the power to test it, the amp and cable as well as the speakers. Good news was they were all fully operational!! I am still amazed how good the sound is from my speaker test box. I may leave it connected for a few days while I continue to clean up more stuff!

Received my Xemodex-repaired ETM and MAF sensor for the Silver Bullet. The MAF had the mounting bolts embedded on the wrong side, so back in the box they went.

The car started right up with the new ETM … and then the RPMs started climbing and climbing to over 5,000 before I shut it off. I tired again, and the same thing happened. Then the car had no power, yet the battery still has 12.3V.

My thought was to get a new MAF and try again, but now I’m not so sure.

Do you possibly have an air leak? I have not heard of the MAF causing this sort of issue (doesn't mean it can't), they either are variable or dead, not heard of one causing a rapid rise in revs. Being a non-turbo and manual, there are limited options that I can think of that might cause this issue.

Leaking pipework/air-leaks and wiring are the 2 main issues I can think of.

Thanks, Neil. I’ll check for air leaks when it’s light out. My brother was set to unplug the MAF sensor once I got it started again, but the car was completely dead. Not even the dash lights came on, which seemed weird.
