It might help to get a reader that can read the actual SRS codes to find the location of the fault
The 1999 body supports about 60SRS codes so that’s a pretty rich font of troubkeshooting info

The whole reason I bought Vida was to be able to read SRS codes. All it tells me is the SRS module is “not responding”. I thought nothing read Volvos better than Vida. What am I missing?

So the SRS light is gone. After VIDA telling me SRS module was not responding I chased through the wiring in the console to the Module and found appropriate values on all wires associated with communication. I was told VIDA with the Mongoose JLR cable would do but it was unable to detect the module apparently. On abscates advice I got a reader, in this case an Autel MD806 which Amazon had on sale 20% off that day, which did indeed find the module and read off SRS-412 Permanent Fault and SRS-422 Intermittent Fault. I opened the under seat plugs and did the old “ in and out” on them each perhaps a dozen times and thought, Yeah sure, that’s gonna do it…..? Put everything back together by the book. Reread the codes and in this case they both came back as intermittent. I hit erase codes and and away they when. Reread it and the scanner showed the lovely “no codes” message, AND THE LIGHT WENT OUT. The moral of the story is start at the beginning with the easy stuff first, like making sure your code reader is up to the task. Tomorrow I’ll hook up the VIDA to the car and see if it can find the SRS module now. I would love to hear from people using the Mongoose JLR cable about their SRS experiences with it. I’ll head to the VIDA thread for that conversation though. Thanks to all who responded with your worthy thoughts and as always, best wishes for success with your projects. Peter
