When I see what people all over the world and in Europe do with their vehicles, what Abscate did is mild. For me the bigger issue is not the getting and staying going, but stopping when the combined load is more than the towing vehicle!

Glad you got her home though!

Had a 'fun' day working in the garage with my Volvo mechanic buddy. We tackled the Fuel filter that looked like it had been sitting in the Titanic. It was a devil to get off. Even thought the filter rotated, it would not release the filter pipes. Gus cut the pipes off and then a combination of vice grips, silicon oil and a lever, the pipes eventually came out. I was right to leave it to the pro!

Filter on and leak free, so on to the 2 x outer tie-rod ends. One had a split boot and the other looked not too bad. I had de-rusted the treads and the nuts on the last visit as well as the ball joint threads. Soaked them again an hour or so before tackling them and they came off like butter! Never seen them come off that easily! In fairness they did not look too crusty.

The surprise was not the play in the broken boot toe-rod, but the other one felt so tight as if it had seized! So glad we did both which makes sense at $30 for 2 x Meyle outer tie-rods. Now the owner just has to get an alignment.

I also replaced the aluminum kick plates that were removed as part of the rocker panel repair work, as well as the from mud flaps.

Final job was to tackle Gus's 97 850 AWD manual. It was due a fuel filter also, but I forgot what a swine they are to do on that and the 98 V70XC!You have to remove all the trunk flooring and the 2 x access panels to have a hope of removing the filter. The front pipe can only be accessed through the front access panel! Fortunately, the pipes both came off easily!

Scary part was, we found the rear sub-frame has a hole in it and a crack coming from it! That brings back nightmares of my R and it's sub-frame. He has threatened me to get me to swap it for him!!

Post pics so we can compare it to the Geronimo pinhole leak fuel filter. Mine removed easily enough... as rust and leaked fuel rained down on my head.

Trans shifted very well. Torque converter was locking up except on worst hills. Not too worried about it but will check in am
I killed the transmission in our 99'V70XC towing 2000lbs on a hot day when it was only 4 years old. It was a very expensive mistake to make.

Abscate will have to park up his 40ft sailboat!

What is worse than the US not getting manual 850 AWD's, (we did also get V70 manual AWD's), is my friend in Germany has a 98 V70R that came with a manual trans from new!! He keeps threatening that one day it will arrive in a container with his stack of parts to rebuild!
It may not go back.............!

I will take a picture of both fuel filters to show a comparison of a 6 year old, 60,000 mile one and an unknown aged rusty one!
