I am trying to replace the rear hatch shock on my 240 volvo. The replacement shocks I bought have threads on the end that goes toward the back of the car. On the old shocks, that goes into a ball joint. Thus that ball joint has to come off the old shock and screwed into the new shock. However, I can't seem to get it off. Of course the shock "axel" twists in the shock and I can't hold it tight enough to get that ball joint off.
Should the shock have come with a new ball joint (i.e. did I get the wrong thing). Or is there a trick for getting the shock off of the ball joint?

Welcome to Matthew's Volvo Site.
When I replaced my tailgate struts on the 850 the socket was on the strut. After a little research into the struts for the 240 the socket is listed as a separate item by Volvo.
All I can suggest is that you grip the 'axle' in a very strong vice and take the socket off that way.
Bill.
