Driveshaft support bearing

Post by davep84 »

Hi Everyone,
I'm working on a 1987 740 Turbo wagon with the aw71 transmission. My question relates to a driveshaft support bearing and carrier that I'm trying to replace. Mine has the 1.75 inch diameter driveshaft. The issue I'm having is that I bought a bearing and carrier kit and cannot figure out where the bearing sits in the rubber carrier. I'm trying to attach a picture of what I'm looking at. From what I've read, it's supposed to press into the rubber carrier. Thanks in advance!

I just did this on an Alfa Romeo two-piece DS, and the bearing is pressed onto the shaft in the shop, then you hand fit the rubber carrier etc onto it.

Might be a totally different design.
