Google "heat pump'. Wikipedia has an introduction article.
If you do not have a central heating and cooling system, it may be harder to install a central ducting system heat pump. However, there are window mount heat pump units.
A heat pump can heat as well as cool with only electricity power.
Be aware the gas heating industry does not want people to change to heat pumps because the heat pump does not use gas.
Our house has had central heat pumps since 1970's.

Pulled all the wire to build in a secondary circuit for power outages.
I’m powering furnace, freezer, refrigerator , and a single outlet ground floor that can be isolated from the main , the powered by a generator in case of outage more than a day.

Do you have underground electric power or wires on poles? What size generator will you use?abscate wrote: ↑19 Sep 2023, 19:01 Pulled all the wire to build in a secondary circuit for power outages.

Luggy, do you know if a heat pump design would work with a new high efficiency boiler, like a Lochinvar? (No cooling obviously)
Our old old skool AO Smith boiler is way over-sized and under-stressed but is now maybe 70+ years old. We may be on borrowed time. The house has a hydronic, copper pipe system.
Thanks -

BB,
I don't know if a heat pump for home heating/ cooling would work with a boiler system. I am guessing your boiler system heats water to circulate through pipes and radiators in your house.
However, a quick look at Lochinvar website shows they also make heat pump water heaters. Since a typical home heat pump that I know about does not produce high temperatures, I have doubts that they would be able to heat water to useful heating system temperatures.
To my thinking, if you want air conditioning, the heat pump system that can do both heating and cooling is better than any gas or oil burning system.

Thanks. No cooling needed here (except a couple of weeks this summer!) I have a local guy pricing a Lochinvar boiler to replace this one. You can put a piggyback water tank on it to replace the old electric.

More good wiring photos...to come
Obviously the fault here is poor grounding of the BX sheath

We run a 2kW Honda which will run at half capacity for our reduced storm needs. It uses 1 gallon gas for about 9 hours, we keep 7 gallons in reserve plus we can tap the fleet for more if needed. We turn it off for overnight and put block ice in the fridge
We have heard you can have outages of 2-3 days here, worst case
