04 XC70 Intermittent Starting Symptom

Post by WestCoastWagon »

Hi All,

Roughly once every 30-40 starts, my Volvo will experience one of the following issues (see attached videos):

1. The tachometer will spike up to 3000 to 4000 rpm, go back to 0 rpm, and then normalize at 1000 rpm. When this occurs, the start is otherwise normal

2. A sluggish start where the engine will crank and the tachometer will bounce between 0 and 500 rpm for 3 to 4 seconds until the engine finally starts up.

No issues while driving. Any thoughts?

@jonesg I suppose eh. Could dirty fuel injectors be a probable suspect?

I'd clean the throttle body first.

I wrote a DIY in XC90 forum.
