2003 XC 70 Oetiker Clamp sizes

Post by Blacklab467 »

Does anyone have a comprehensive list or sizes for various Oetiker clamps used on P2's? Im looking for specifically:

Power Steering return line and reservoir to pump
Radiator overflow hose to tank
Intake manifold centre nipple (centre of manifold)
Turbo cooling hose
Radiator hoses

I'm assuming that these are all "167" series clamps, I've found a good source to order from where they sell lots of ten.

2007 XC 70, 1970 Dodge Charger R/T.

I've found that vernier calipers to measure the hose OD (while installed) and the table and chart in this link below to be very helpful.

I can tell you from experience the top radiator hose that kept popping off my low quality aftermarket radiator required a 45.5mm stepless oetiker clamp to finally solve the problem but this will depend on the radiator hose brand too and the thickness of the hose. In my case it was 4.4mm thick NAPA top radiator hose. For the smaller hoses I seemed to use a lot of 17.5mm, 18.5mm and 19.8mm clamps. The stepless clamps are the best for hard to seal hoses like the power steering return line.

I use BelMetric to order the clamps, what's your source? Lots of tens in a good source for these clamps if you can them in all the sizes.

You have to measure oetiker for the hose at the widest part of the attach point , the flared part.

If you just measure the OD of the resting hose it will be too tight to get on the installed hose

In cases where a smaller clamp works best and when the clamp size may not fit over the flared part you can place the clamp on the inside of the flare end, before the hose is pushed on and then push on the hose, move the clamp onto the hose and then push the hose on the rest of the way. With the smaller clamping range of the smaller sized clamps sometimes it's better to fit the clamp this way. Ideally though it's best to also measure at the largest OD where the flare is, like you mentioned, and size the clamp accordingly. The other option if needed with the Oetiker clamps is to bend the small retaining tab to open the clamp and then you can fit the clamp over an installed hose, reconnect the clamp and crimp tight.
For the top radiator hose problem I was having the only clamp size that fit well enough was one that didn't fit over the flare part but did just barely fit over the installed hose so had to install as described above. These clamps work well because they provide constant, even tension over a wide temperature range.
