There's always something that breaks and needs to be repaired/replaced on these cars
When I went to fill up with petrol on my way to Glencoe on Sunday my petrol cap retaining strap decided to part company. Once home an online search and £6.06 later two straps from eBay were winging their way to me. They arrived this morning and it took a couple of minutes to fit one and the other will go into my parts bin. They are supplied with new metal pins but I decided to re-use the original plastic pins
Original strap broken
2 new straps from eBay
Plastic pins to be re-used
Pins in place and retaining strap attached
Sorted
What did you do to your P2 Volvo today?

Who knew? I didn't know you could buy those separately. Are they aftermarket?

Never gave any thoughts to the strap but on the last fill up did wonder about the two holes in the cap retainer and the hook on the fuel door
. Have always set the cap upside down between the rear glass and trunk edge. Thanks for posting this, going to look for a set. Have four Volvos currently and can't remember right now if even one of cars has it

@ Neil: Yes the two I purchased were aftermarket but they are still available from Volvo. Not sure how long the aftermarket ones will last but at £6 for two it doesn't really matter. Genuine Volvo part number is 31336424
@ BKM: That's fine until you forget and drive off and the cap is gone forever...

was getting a scratching sound from the passenger front. Saw the ball joint was installed slightly out of place and was contacting the wheel as the wheel bolts were a little loose. Got to fire the person incharge of tightening the bolts when i see them (glad i cant see my own face without a mirror).
My top motor mount shimmied its way out of place. Used some clamps to put it back into place and now i do not have rubbing on the mount retaining bar.
Need to do winters and an oil change soon. One step at a time.
Saw a nice rust proofing gun kit with a remote reservoir. Seems perfect for jackstand based work and it would pay for itself after 5-6 cars (coincidently the amount i may do in a year for my family.). Asked for a quote to see if i can purchase it local.

Got the 06 XC70 winter tires/rims installed today. Glad to see both front and rear rotors (Brembo) are still rust free. Makes the change over so much easier. May have to consider new lug bolts in a years or so as they are starting to get rusty.
Checked the fluids and so car is ready to tackle winter (which is arriving tomorrow according to the weather network). 5-7cm of snow forecast tomorrow and possibly the same Tuesday and flurries on/off the rest of the week and <0C all week. Joy............
Just have to clean the tires/rims and put away for the winter.
Neil.

Just home from two weeks on the mean streets of Baltimore. One thing I don't get by not living in the middle of a big city, is the variety of new cars out of the street and freeway. You get to see most of the models and variations out there, colors, all that. Cars I never even see here.
I was surprised at the number of new Volvos everywhere. A lot of them. Predominately the medium and large suv models, but a few P2 wagons and quite a few P3 wagons. A nice V90 wagon on Locust Point. A sharp looking V60 wagon. I followed a nice looking P3 wagon on the freeway coming into the City from the north, and as I got close enough I saw that it had Maryland horse stickers on the back window. Oh, I see how it is! Totally different perception from mine of who buys wagons.

When you hit any kind of University town in the North east , Volvos are like flies on meat...our family is the archetype! Abby just got a great career step into Research grant management on campus, turning her 35 minute commute into a one minute carpool with Mom or walk.
