What is the vacuum required (Hg) to operate the brake booster on these cars?

Post by ThaddeusTheBold »

Hi,

Another electric conversion question here for my 1998 V70.

When I delete the internal combustion engine on my V70, I will also have no vacuum source to operate the brake booster.

So, I need to acquire a 12v vacuum pump, and maybe an accumulator tank. They are expensive! So I don't want to buy more pump than I need, but I certainly don't want less.

In order to size the pump, I need to know how much vacuum the brake booster in my car requires. Does anybody here know?

Thank you,

Thaddeus

Here is a vacuum pump for a 2006 Volvo S60 turbo. Do you folks think this would work?

.
Our P1 C30 uses a vacuum pump also. I think even our 03 S70 T6 has one. Go to any Volvo Parts Online and compare a heavier Volvo suv vs a car's vacuum pump. If they are the same part you should be fine.
.

In keeping with the whole “Mathew” theme,
Check out Super Fast Matt on YouTube.

He has a couple of videos with conversion

using Tesla parts.

You get about 20 inches of vacuum at most on closed throttle overrun, so you don’t need more than that.
