1994 855 T Vibration at idle

Post by asbard »

My 1994 850 turbo wagon, in addition to a number of other little quirks, has annoying vibration when stationary, particularly on an up-incline. I had the front engine mount replaced, but it did nothing (in fact seems worse since). Other mounts have apparently checked OK. Any ideas?

I should add that when driving, the feeling I have is as if I was holding a small coffee grinder..

Perhaps the engine is just running rough. Sparkplugs good? Air filter, vacuum hoses etc.
Help keep MVS on the web -> click sponsors' links here on MVS when you buy from them.

Also -> Amazon link

Was the engine mount stock or aftermarket? Did you notice the vibration after the upper mount change or before?

It is my understanding that the aftermarket upper mounts are more rigid and you will feel more engine vibration.

The engine feels quite smooth to touch. I will check the spark plugs, air filter etc. just in case.
As to the mounts, the upper mounts are OEM and were changed at 60k miles by the previous owner. The passenger side (low) mount (in reality the front engine mount, because that's where the front of the engine is)was changed recently (82k miles). I was feeling the vibration before the change of the front mount as well. The hydraulic mounts show no leaks, which means they are O.K. according to the mechanic.
