How cool is this?!

I was stationed with the Army in the mid 80's in West Germany - Fulda. My father wired me money to purchase a MB 300 Turbo Diesel, but I talked him into something a tad more exciting, a 1986 MB 190E 2.3-16v. I drove this car for just over a year before returning stateside, having to hand over this car to him. One day on the way to Frankfurt I saw this billboard and had to pull over to immortalize the moment, the picture was taken in winter/spring of 1986.

It was a German (gray market) car, 'but one of the first with a catalytic converter - 'mit Katalysator.' The only major thing to meet US regualtions was to change out the euro headlights for US spec lights... but then later when regulations were relaxed we re-installed the euro beams.

Was replacing both rear hubs today on the Quest. One was boxed wrong. One is replaced. Sent back to RockAuto for exchange. 😬

So here is an oddity, that I'm willing to bet, no one else has even come close to seeing.
I was driving home, and going through a round-about, I heard a loud rumbling from the rear of my Cherokee. Pulled right over, and found a rear tire completely flat. Now these tires are pretty stout, and only 2 years old, so when I couldn't find any obvious puncture, I figured that I must have broke the bead somehow.

When they broke the tire down off the rim, this is what the found rolling around inside. Puncture right through the tread. Not even close to being repairable.
Think about how in the world that could happen. 1 in a million for sure.
( That is the most expensive drill bit I have )

It's mind boggling the angle and force necessary to penetrate the tire. Years ago we had the same thing happen on an 78 company Dodge Maxi Van which sat 11 or 12 passengers. Couldn't tell what that long piece of metal was or from. Same thing straight in so had to look to see where the air loss was from. Couldn't hear the sound of the piece during rotation so only found out once the tire was removed.
