Stick shift rubber disintegrating 1995 Volvo 940!

Post by okeetee »

The rubber on the shift knob in my 1995 940 Volvo is completely disintegrating and falling off in junks! I'm sure this is fairly common for a car this old. I've tried to "super glue" some of the pieces back in place, but it's a lost cause! So, what to do now? Can the rubber somehow be replaced to where it looks good once again? Is this a dealer item? And how much work is involved in replacing the handle with a new one....if that's my only alternative? Also, the mirror piece on drivers side has cracked. Where can I get just the mirror, not the whole assembly on the drivers side rear view mirror? Thanks for any help!

If the rubber is so bad then I think you are looking at a new/used knob.

You could try: http://www.erievovo.com/ who may be able to help at less cost than a dealer. Failing that try your local breaker's yard.

The mirror glass should be available at any good car parts store.

Thanks for the tip! If I were to find a new/different knob how are they installed on this model? Is it less difficult than it looks?

I understand it is auto transmission. Not too difficult but you do need to be strong!!
