One of the first things I ran into when I first got into them… realized that opening the hood was a 2 man job lol. For a while I used a wooden wedge between the hood and headlight to apply pressure and release it.

The 98 S70 T5 owned in 2012 was definitely a two man job. Before adding the, I'll call it shim on the current 00 S70, I would have to pull the lever and very gently release while holding the lever till the very end before letting go. Majority of the time the hood doesn't re-latch itself close. Not an issues now as the grommet hardness is just enough to provide push back besides height to release every time.
.
Yep, I used to have to release it, go walk around and pull up, then back into the car to pull it again, then back to finally (hopefully) open the hood.
Haha, did that also. Never thought about the wedge of wood. Probably didn't think it was a good idea to put that kind of pressure on the headlight assembly.

abscate wrote: 13 Nov 2023, 17:37 If you fold a piece of cardboard. In two and slip it in above the headlight, hoods will pop...
That would work well. Since the 00 S70 has not gotten to that point I was hoping for a Stage 0 fix. Didn't like the hood to be lower than the fender when the latch was adjusted to make the hood snug. The alternative would be hood and fender leveled with each other but with a gap so the hood could bounce down in the latch. Didn't like that slop in the latch.

I've been dodging the proverbial bullet for the last 3½ years so decided it was time to purchase a spare fuel pump relay to keep it in the glovebox just in case...

A couple days ago I reglued the high mount brake light to the rear window of my 1987 240. It has two metal clips glued to the window with a blacked out area on the glass. The glue kit instructs to mark the position on the outside of the glass to aid in positioning the clips when gluing. The black out prevents seeing through the glass. I worked around this problem by attaching tape to the top and side of the clip area and marking the center lines of the clip on the tape. Then a carefully followed the cleaning instructions and glued the two clips. Yesterday, I checked the fit of the plastic mount to the clips. Good fit.
Then I installed a new bulb into the socket and tried to test the brake light before completing the assembly. No brake light or any other lights.
AHA! The battery had been removed and is in the mower.

Awhile back, I mentioned replacing the driver's side wiper arm with a new ProParts arms. I was happy with it, and upon trying to adjust the passenger side arm, I decided to replace it, as well. I did that today, along with new Valeo wipers.

As soon as I got the passenger side arm off the car, I compared it to the new one, and sure enough it was bent just like the driver's side had been. It still made contact with the window though the whole sweep, but could not be adjusted down without coming into contact with the hood. The new arm makes no contact, and isn't quite as far up on the windshield.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned before, but another possible point of contact for the wiper arms is the plastic cowl cover vents.

I'm happy with the new arms. It think it was built up snow/ice that bent the originals. I am slightly disappointed with the new Valeo Ultimate Traditional wipers...pictures show 8 contact points between the rubber insert and the frame, but current production is apparently only 6.

I moved the Trico beam wipers from the 850 to the S70, where they'll get a lot of use this winter.

Previously, I've mentioned I don't have a great spray pattern, or much pressure at the washer nozzles along with a delay in fluid to the windshield and a quickly emptying reservoir. While messing with the wipers, I've noticed a giant wet spot under the front right of the car after washer usage. I'm assuming what's happening is the headlight washer part of the system is hogging most of the fluid dropping the pressure to the windshield. More investigation will be needed. I can't tell exactly where each line is running, and I need to move onto other things before work.

I'm sure pleased to have fully working wipers on the 850, now. I've been avoiding driving it in the rain, and now I kind of wish it would rain just so I could use them, lol.

It will likely be a broken diaphragm in one of the headlight one way valves. Usually, the one on the right behind the right headlight wiper as you have found. It is a bit of a phaff to fish out from just out of sight on the RH wiper side. Short term, you could remove the pipe upstream of the valve and just tie a knot in it as any who remove the arms altogether when the motors fail.

The valve is a simple 'T' item. Although, looking at the parts drawing for an 850 it may not have a valve and just be a T.

https://www.volvocarstorontoparts.ca/a/ ... 67001.html

It is number 17 in the drawing. What I was expecting was something like #23. It could also be a split hose or even the headlight nozzles are blocked and it is pushing the rubber hose off. the T.

Replaced the trunk struts finally. Found the missing adjustable hood bumpers on the trunk while back there. Thanks Volvo could have easily placed a set on the hood. Think of the millions of owners going back and forth pulling the lever again and again. And it looks like part number #7 is not available for the trunk either.

I have a little side to side play in my upper torque mount bushing, but FCP and IPD seem to only have the poly type.
Did you go that route, or did you find the rubber type ?
