The lock cylinders are made in Germany. They drop shipped mine and the customs paperwork had country of origin. I believe Valeo is the manufacturer

If you have to change your's don't order the shear bolts for $8.00, the new lock comes with them. The key would get stuck in position "0" and not turn, it did this 3 times in the last 6 weeks, even after I removed the metal plate from the bottom of the lock which is a hack that seems to work in most instances.

Is there any preventative maintenance we can do to avoid this? It’s a repair I never want to encounter.

It’s an old age thing when the lock tumblers seize up. It’s not an awful repair, an hour in the prewarmed cabin in winter isn’t hateful

BlackBart,

If you know the "screwdriver trick", you will never be stranded.
Just carry some Torx keys in the car, if the key does not turn in the ignition,
simply remove the electrical portion of the ignition switch (LEFT side of
steering column), then use screwdriver to start the car.

There’s a little more to it than that, the column lock does a couple other things necessary for driving the car, unlocking the column lock and enabling the gearshift to move out of park namely. You need to be able to get to position 1 at least to achieve this, and position “2” to move the cable that unlocks the shift handle, although you can override the shifter lock manually by hand by removing the console side panel. If you’re key is stuck in position “0” you’re not going anywhere, even with the screwdriver trick.

Thank you; it worked! The 1/2" #6-32 stainless steel machine screw was a better fit for the shorter double-walled space.

Replaced alternator on s60. Oil change on both vehicles. Oil leak on the s60 somewhere. Can’t be bothered to find it yet will continue to top up. Alternator is 10 times easier on the 2.4, just like every other job. No turbo and no angle gear make it a much more diy-friendly p2.

Thanks for noting that it's easier to work on the 2.4. Making it more likely I'll be keeping the 00 S70 Base as a long term vehicle. Looking at tires now so may just spend a little extra for a longer lasting tire.

The 1/2" is cleaner looking also though no one will ever see it . I noticed I did cut one due to the distance of the double wall. Will see if I can go back and make a change to my post to reflect this. Thanks.

Installed some new parts today, after having the hood come down on my head 3 times I decided it was time for some new hood struts. Also got a good assortment of Oeticker clamps from BelMetric, does anyone know if our cars use anything other than "167" series stainless 7mm wide clamps anywhere besides the CV boots? BelMetric is great! You can buy lots of 1, 10, 100, any amount you like and the price is good and fast shipping. I also found a NOS rear cargo mat in Oak on Marketplace for $50 that I will install in the spring when I do the annual shampooing the carpets.
