2007 XC90 Diesel slight 100-300rpm transmission flare

Post by ramilio »

Hi All,

Just after some advice on my 2007 Volvo XC90 Diesel.

The transmission is shifting relatively nicely except for a slight flare on 2-3, and 3-4. Unlike other flaring I’ve seen the RPM only jumps slightly (i.e 100-300rpm). You can feel/hear a slight surge of the engine as it happens but the shift is still smooth. No other strange behaviour or error codes.

It’s most noticeable on the 3-4 change and is constant. Temperature doesn’t seem to be an issue. It behaves the same on cold start or when warmed up. The behaviour was occurring before and after I reset the adaptions.

For background - the car had all the typical symptoms of a bad valve body (hard shifts, flaring, solenoid error etc). Since then I have done the following:
- Replaced the Valve body with a new, genuine Volvo valve body
- Did several drain and fills (maybe 15l in total)
- Checked the fluid level (a few times) at the right temperature
- Reset the fluid counter and Reset adaptions (at the same time)
- Car has been serviced by Volvo to date so assuming the TCM software should be up to date.

Everything seems to work well except for the persistent flare.

Any advice appreciated. Thanks,

Ramilio
