No code reader that works. I have a couple bluetooth ELM327 dongles that won't read anything with the 850 OBD-II app as well as a Foxwell NT301 what won't read anything. I've asked around in the local community and they can't point me to anyone that can read codes either. I've checked here and can't get a solid idea on whether or not the app should work on mine or not, seems to be more than a few saying that it won't work on a pre-98 system at all.

No lights on the cluster if that means anything. I might pull the ABS module, clean the pins and the harness and check for bad solder joints all the same.

Do you have the diagnostic connector in the engine bay? I don't know if they still had that on 97 models or not.

VOLFCR is your best bet for that year. Did a lot of diagnostic with a virtual box XP instance and a VAG-COM KKL OBD cable (Blue ebay one i think). It needs a specific chipset to work on the OBD (FT232RL) i think it was.

Installed upper torque rod bushing with a Volvo ( rubber ) stock one. It took the beefiest clamp I had to press it in.
I have been noticing a little resistance or binding on the accelerator pedal, just when I first start to push down on it. Isolated it to the cable. So I guess that's next on the repair agenda.

A new throttle cable makes all the difference. I can't stand a stiff, gritty feeling pedal.

(sneers from the 99 00 electronic throttle body section have been suppressed )

Heart in mouth yesterday in East NY as Kat suddenly stalled at idle showing multiple low voltage symptoms just before. Started and idled fine after but every 5-10 minutes would repeat. With a half hour urban grind up Atlantic Avenue , I was unhappy.

Thinking cap on. Did you ever tighten that negative battery clamp ?

Two 10 mm wrenches later, the ride of 2 hours back home was uneventful, or sans event as we sat when we want to bill at $365

Alright, ordered a cable, I'll give it a shot. Does it need to run in an XP virtual machine or is it worth trying comppatibility modes first?

New issue with the car though. Under hard acceleration, the coolant level light comes on, then goes away quickly after. Are these sensors known to fail? There's some gurgling while it's running but I assumed this is just in need of a new cap or similar, possibly related.

A small part of my brain worries about a bad head gasket, as my 3rd cylinder reads around 130psi both dry and wet and I'm concerned that this may be the cause.

You've got your coolant level right near the threshold of tripping the sensor. Top it off with a bit of Vodka and you will be all set

If only I could find a section dedicated to the problems / replacement of the throttle cable, like there is for the ETM.
But seriously, based on the couple of YouTubes I've watched on removal of the cable at the firewall, there doesn't look to be a "clean" way to get it out of there. Cut and mangle seems to be the approved procedure.
