Add this to the list (or delete if already mentioned). 2000 S70 GLT SE uses a new type of sensor for turbine speed (engine speed) on the transmission. Best way to test is in diode mode on multimeter. Pins 16 and 17 in the large connector on top of the trans. Should read about 1 in one direction and open (infinity) in the other. Part number is 9496115 and is no longer available. Used in the 70 series from 98-2004.

I have done enough of the 99-00 alternators to consider them easier, not easy!!

Pulled several from the junkyards but all have supposedly been bad. I am not convinced on this it is just most of the places that claim to test alternators find they don't have the correct wiring connector to test it. So they try a bodge which is not conclusive.

Even tried taking one to a repair shop, but I don't like it when they take it out of site and then come back shortly after and say it is a dud but we can rebuild it sir for more than a Bosch rebuilt unit...........Hm.

So for now I have given up on junkyard alternators for my car and will buy a rebuilt unit when it is needed.

Yeah, it can be a gamble buying them used. I like to get Bosch alternators from Rock Auto.

I try to buy nothing from the US where core charges are concerned. By the time I pay return shipping any saving I made is not worth it.

A 100A Bosch rebuilt alternator P80 -98) weighs approx. 15.5 lbs. Seems heavier today than it felt when it was removed!!

Just edited this as the AL0752X alternator I pulled from the 95 850 base is actually a Bosch reman unit that has been uprated to 120A

I am trying to remember do the -98 Alternators rotate in the opposite direction? The alternator for my 00 V70R is an AL0805X which is also rated to 120A.
