Last Saturday in heavy rain I believe I've encountered the rain squeal on my 2004 XC70,
will examine for scoring mark on the propshaft when I have time, but pretty confident that it is, since it doesn't change with speed, only ever happened in heavy rain, and no pulling/vibration etc came with it.
The internet presents two fixes:
1. The JRL mod deleting the resonator
2. The updated bracket from Volvo
Some say that only deleting the resonator works.
So my question is does the Volvo updated bracket work for any of you? I'd prefer to go that route if it does, since it seems possible to diy.
Proper fix for rain squeal

So something hot (and maybe out of position) is getting splashed and moving into the driveshaft?

Never heard of this before, could someone please elaborate what the problem is and what it sounds like? Are you suspicious that driving in rain makes the prop shaft squeal, and what bracket is the solution?

Driving over puddle gets water on the bottom of exhaust, it flexes up and touches propeller shaft with the resonator.Blacklab467 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2024, 10:57 Never heard of this before, could someone please elaborate what the problem is and what it sounds like? Need to replace this with this:

I actually cut the repair bracket in halves, so it does not dig into the dirt when I'm off the pavement.

Yes it's what vtl outlines below:Blacklab467 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2024, 10:57 Never heard of this before, could someone please elaborate what the problem is and what it sounds like? Are you suspicious that driving in rain makes the prop shaft squeal, and what bracket is the solution?
Thanks for confirming that the bracket works. and for the advice on modifying the bracket to improve ground clearance.vtl wrote: ↑02 Apr 2024, 11:28Driving over puddle gets water on the bottom of exhaust, it flexes up and touches propeller shaft with the resonator.Blacklab467 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2024, 10:57 Never heard of this before, could someone please elaborate what the problem is and what it sounds like? Did they actually update that bracket? It looks like the same one that’s on my car.

That first link from vtl is a typo, it links to the original style bracket (Volvo). The updated bracket is these two links, Volvo or URO:Blacklab467 wrote: ↑02 Apr 2024, 16:50 Did they actually update that bracket? It looks like the same one that’s on my car.
