We have Swedish ASKO W & D. Super efficient, made of stainless steel, engineered to last forever like a Volvo. But guess what - at 20+ years, parts are NLA. Somebody in Eastern Europe has bought them and that’s no longer a priority.

Volvo and Non Volvo vehicle content notice.
The second load of bamboo and tree brush was ready to haul away last Tuesday. It had rained over the previous weekend, but I expected no trouble getting unloaded. I was wrong.
After getting the truck and trailer unloaded to my pile in the grassy area, I tried to back out. Nope. Just spinning and digging ruts.
I called a friend and got a ride home leaving the truck and trailer where they were stuck.
Today, I drove over in my 1987 Volvo 244 to try getting the truck and trailer out.
After a little digging behind each tire to ease the angle out of the rut, the truck backed up with minimal spinning. I drove the truck with trailer home, leaving the Volvo.
My friend gave me a ride back to get the 244. I learned the Volvo has a fuel leak near the front of the tank. I will check out that problem another day.

Running our LENNOX furnace is coming to another successful end. However, I'm hearing return-duct making a thump noise.

We have radiant heat in our 100 year old house, no forced air. A Munchkin condensing boiler has been getting us through Iowa winters the last 20 years. Have had to repair something every four years or so but it's easy to work on and has been relatively cheap to repair. As long as I clean and maintain the firing chamber it still performs well.

About six weeks ago i finished the last bamboo and brush clearing for this year. I have started mowing the new bamboo shoots to slow new bamboo growth. I can mow the new shoots until they get about a couple feet tall when they are still very green. The area that I cleared two years ago is now mostly free of new shoots.
Bamboo shoots emerge from the roots about the size of a thumb. They can grow a couple feet in just a few days.

We have a hydronic radiant house. My boiler is a submarine-sized A.O. Smith from 1947, 190,000 btus. A bit oversized. They were big and heavy duty, maybe that's why it's lasted so long. It's dumping all kinds of carbon and soot on the floor, showing signs of failing.erikv11 wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 22:25 We have radiant heat in our 100 year old house, no forced air. We have a local wizard on hydronics, and he is working on a new system using a Viessman boiler with a piggyback hot water tank. The boiler is "on-demand," so it will step up the burners from just a little to full blast if needed. They can be wall-mount or on the floor. Really easy to service I'm told. Fingers (and checkbook) crossed.

Always like the name A.O. Smith and their water heaters. Does rhyme with AerO Smith

Viessmann going to hit the checkbook as it's German.

The A.O. Smith brand has sadly been purchased and repurchased and faded away.
