Another pro tip, thank you jonesg. That would mean a compromised heater core, opposed to trapped air, yes?
Wish I took the time to diagnose further today, but I did not. If the "plenum door actuators" of the heater core check out, then I'll have to assume I flagged a maintenance gremlin and messed up some standard maintenance... aka did not burp the system properly.
I look forward to laughing at myself about this once if it turns out to be air in the core

I share this experience.
Just as a data point, my Black Betty the P2 makes heat RIGHT NOW, even in cold weather. I’ve always been impressed. Our Audi A4 took forever - you’d arrive and it was still blowing cold air on your feet.

Yep my P2 and P80 cars were fast to get to heat. My 2017 VW is slow.
