Driving to work the other day wifes call stalled (pulled into parking garage and waited for ticket) and restarted without problem. Today wife drove to store (15 min.drive) and car stalled, she had a slight problem restarting but it started and drove ok home. During my inspection I found nothing loose or making a noise. I expected some type of vacuum leak but found nothing. Any Ideas?
I'm in the Dallas Tx area and It's been over 100 degrees for the last 14 days but I have not found a cooling problem and AC is working fine
Thanks
Ray

Hey Ray,
Really, without reading trouble codes, it's one half dozen or the other. However, with hot weather we've had more fuel pump relays intermittantly losing it these days. Check out Ozark Lee's posting in this thread:

You might want to try this the next time the car dies and doesn't want to start just to eliminate this as the potential culprit if nothing else.
Regards,
MIJ
P.S. I'm moving this to the FWD (through year 2000) section.

Went to autozone, had codes read and found code P0103 Mass Air Flow
I pulled the fuel relay and jumped #s87 &15 car ran very poorly
checked to see that I had fuel at rail (did not check pressure but had strong spray from fitting). Now the only way I can get car to stall is to let ii idle for about five minutes and it seems to me that something is telling the engine to shut off does not spit and sputter does not choke out or backfire just simply shuts off. I did not pull the mass air flow because if the element was broken it would not run at all.

Disconnect the MAF sensor and see if things run smoothly (though limited power). If so, then it truly is the MAF sensor. You could try cleaning it but usually these die and have to be replaced.

MIJ, Thanks
Disconnected the wire harness to the MAF and the car ran smoothly
Pulled the sensor and could not tell anything I thought there was a
wire you could inspect. Thanks for your help

Well, there is sort of a wire (but depends on your year) inside the round mounting piece that the accordion hose attaches to. You can spray liberally onto that sensor in the middle of the pipe with MAF cleaner or electrical contact cleaner (don't touch the sensor, you'll mess it up) and then let it air dry and see if this takes care of things. For the car to run smoothly with the MAF sensor connector off and stumble and kill the car with it pugged back in is a sure sign that the sensor is bad. Sometimes cleaning it will give you some more time before replacing it.
