S80 Emergency Brake Boot

Everything on the Volvo S80. Sometimes called an "executive car", the S80 was Volvo's top-of-the-line passenger car. P2 platform.

S80 Emergency Brake Boot

Post by asummers »

Does anyone know a source for new emergency brake boots for the S80?
This is the leather boot at the back of the ebrake handle and the console.
Thanks.

Hey there, I see you're also in Knoxville. I searched in VADIS and show absolutely nothing for this...there are diagrams for all of the braking components minus the leather boot or "gator." Not sure why. You could go to Clayton Volvo but I'm afraid you're in for some expense there. Last time I was at European Auto parts (a junk yard of Volvo's, Saab's, etc.- European cars) over off of Clinton Highway, near the Anderson County boarder (on the left as you're going over that last hill toward Anderson Co.), I saw a few S80's in their yard. You might call or just go out there and I'd say you might have a pretty good chance of getting a boot off of one of their wrecks.

Thanks, I have checked with European Auto Parts and they actually have a 2000 S80 that I am going to check out for a few other parts I am looking for, the ebrake boot is gone though.
I am going to take my nasty boot apart to make a pattern for some upolstery leather and make it myself.

I also found out today that I have to go to Volvo to get a second key made and programmed, our new S80 only has one key. That is around $150 at Clayton Volvo for one master key!
And, my 99 S80 keyless remotes are not programmable to my new S80. Our new S80 only has one remote too. A new remote with programming is over $200 at Clayton Volvo.
We need two keys, but we can do with only one remote!

They are outrageous and since Bond (service guy who was actually pretty nice and cut me deals) has left for another non-Volvo dealer I don't step foot in their doors. You might try calling the dealer in Chattanooga to see if they're better on prices. I forget their name... Oh, about your boot...an S70 or S60 as well as S70, so check them out when you go to the junk yard (take yours with you).

Last night I removed the ebrake boot from my car. It was really easy, if you open up the console lid you will see a square hole, put a screw driver in there to release the plastic piece that holds the boot, then slide it off the handle. The leather is glued between two pieces of plastic, I am having success because the glue is only at a few spot locations. There are two posts that center the two pieces of plastic together that I think I will have to cut off to separate the two pieces. Then I can get the leather out to make my patterns on the new leather. There is an elastic piece in the boot around the ebrake handle that I will reuse. I will post again if all goes well.

Well, I have the new material for the brake boot cut to the pattern of the old boot. Now to sew it all together. I will post again when finished. And try to get some pictures of the process for people to view.
