Whilst in North America we did not get chipped anti-theft keys until 99 MY, in Europe I think they got them as far back as 96. Does your car have chipped keys?
When you say your car does not start with the key, do you mean you put the key in the ignition and nothing happens at all, or does the car turn over and not start?
Neil.
What did you do to your Volvo today? Topic is solved

It was a no crank issue. Turns out to be the PNP switch harness. I'll update my post.
Regarding whether the key has a chip or not, I'll need to know as I plan to have another set made. Bonus if the fob can be fixed/duplicated too as it has broken traces. This is part of a bigger key related issue in that the key only works on the driver's side. Passenger side does not move, tailgate moves but does not lock/unlock

I had fun trying to turn two tired axleshafts into a decent one
Inner joint came out in 15min on first one, gave up after over an hour on the second axle (pictured here
)

Took a few measurements while I was at it, a manual axle thread might be in order

I know the feeling. Are you trying to alter a different axle? Or just piece together bits from the correct axles for your car?

Axle on the car had a bad inner, with an okay boot, and a good outer with a torn boot.
Spare axle (same P/N) had a good inner with a bad boot and both good boot and outer joint
For some reason the seal lip on the inner joint is different by 4mm, I wonder if one came off a car and the other was a later build part.
Managed to get all the good stuff into one axle that should last a few months, I've got Subaru parts to buy right now
