‘07 S80 3.2 - Rear Shock Replacement Woes

Post by E Showell »

Looking to replace rear shocks. Can’t get the 10mm nut that holds the top shock mount in place to thread down on the strut rod. I assume the mount should be rigidly fixed, not flopping around. I get about 5 turns on the nut and it doesn’t want to thread anymore. There are still plenty of free threads showing on the strut rod. Thoughts? I am using hand tools, because that’s what I have.

There has to be a reason for this - as in some kind 'nick' on the threads - or are you using a lock-nut and reaching the point of resistance (which would be normal with a lock-nut)?

Handled by local mechanic with impact wrench.

Subsequest issue was 17 years of rust welding defeating Kroil and my recently-acquired impact.

I thought about heat, but only have a propane plumbing torch. Buddy says that’s knife to gunfight territory. Going to the pros Friday.
