Thank you for that listing !! I just PMd him on cost. Any idea the ballpark for an engine swap? I am a shade tree and have done a few VW engine swaps but I think this would be beyond my capabilities.

Every part of the country is different on costing. My friend is a Volvo mechanic (former) and we recently did a transmission removal to do a rear main seal on a P80 FWD auto. It took him with some help from me, about 8-9 hours. I know when I have Volvo replace my RMS on my R AWD P80 the book time was 10-11 hours if I recall. If Abscate or Robert DIY is around maybe ask them as they have both removed and installed these engines. You could also check with Robert if there is any chance he will be out your way any time soon.

The thing is with a P80, even an AWD you could drop the whole subframe with engine and trans which could reduce the swap time.

Hopefully this can work out for you and your car. Best of Luck!

10 hours first time is about right. Nip away at the job on weekends with the disconnects like the horrible exhaust nuts. Until you are ready for the pull. Harbor freight picker about $150, load leveler recommended

Bdub does them in about 4 hours , but he’s just awesome

Time is always variable on these things. If you are trying to preserve stuff, it takes a lot more time when you hit rusty manifold bolts. When you have to redo a valve job at 3000 miles because the timing roller puked, all the bolts are “ crack and spin”. You can spend 3 hours under grinding off 25 year old exhaust stuff , though

So on a philosophical level do I retain the essence of Yetrude the vehicle if I swap out Her engine and transmission into this donor vehicle? My brother says yes…

Hummm... $2000 might be a little out of my budget for that v70. I am waiting for two other estimates on the engine swap. I am hoping it can be done as a unit since my engine and transmission have only 95,000 original miles - but it's sounding like $1500 - $2000 for the swap. My by back was $625 . So a potential total of $4625. I don't know if that is a sound investment. I might need to go back to the idea of her being a wreckreational vehicle...

Wow, $2000 for a car with a blown motor. Yikes. Long gone are the days I bought running but tired P80's for $500. Now people want $2-3000 or more for P80's with a list of expensive major faults. This is nuts.

Check the LDQ site for an engine. Hint, if you have a local LDQ outlet go there and ask the guy to search.

Yards have to pay a hefty premium to get stiff listed on the consumer site, whereas the actual agents see everything.

E.g. BMW E83 transfer case online $1500-2000 quoted

At the LDQ guy search, $200-500

I'm sure someone must have done a tailgate swap on a V70 in the forum - but have not been able to find one via search...
