If the returned product is just being recycled or scrapped, then there is an environmental cost involved with shipping the stuff around the country, that wouldn't exist if recycled locally. Rebuildable cores are the exception.
Try to learn life's bad lessons vicariously through others.

I've been loosely tracking prices for some parts from FCP over the past four years. Yes, they went up with inflation in 2021-2022 along with other companies. Beyond that, I've seen their prices fluctuate frequently and sometimes oddly. I bought a part (belt tensioner?) for about $90 without comparison shopping, then found it for $45 at other shops and FCP a few months later. I asked them for a credit since that $90 price seemed out of line and they gave it.

My FCP sale thread shows that they're frequently offering 10% off so it's worth waiting to buy at those times.

Other shopping alternatives include IPD and usparts.volvocars.com (especially during holiday sales and 10% dealership discount). I love shopping from at usparts, picking up from my local dealership. I suspect it has lower environmental impact from shipping and packing material. Oi, the FCP packing material is egregious.

How can a company *secretly* increase the price posted on a web page, what does that even mean?

I alway shop around before buying and as a result FCP remains my main source for parts, probably 70% of my business. Their prices are competitive, their shipping is fast, customer service is *still* excellent and the LT warranty can be valuable. I buy from elsewhere where (a) I don't like the FCP price and/or (b) it is unlikely I will use the LT warranty. The decision tree is usually straightforward.

The warranty is overwhelmingly more useful for people who can drive the returns in to the FCP location, rather than ship them.
