Question about rotating the cold side of the turbo

Post by kllvturbo »

Hi

Bought a new (remanufactured) Td04hl-13G turbo. Had no problems installing it. But when I started to install the oil return pipe, it turns out that the bolt holes of the pipe won't line up with the holes in CHRA. It seems that I need to rotate the cold side/CHRA just a couple of degrees for the holes to line up. So my question is: can I release the middle clamp and rotate the cold side with the CHRA just a tiny bit? Do I risk messing something up? I believe it shouldn't cause any issues with the balancing

Thanks

It has a pin in it. It only goes together one way.

^ That is true. However I encountered one where the pin was missing, so that could be his issue.
If it is, then just make/ install a new pin.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know there was a pin. However, I didn't want to tear everything apart again so I just sliced about 0.5 mm off from the o-ring that goes into the hole in the block. That way the bolt holes lined up nicely. Problem solved, for now.

The oil return line is a poor design. I bolt it to the CHRA first and stab it into the block while mounting the turbo.
