2008 XC70

I have a 2008 XC70 that up until recently has given us zero problems. The car is in great shape with 110K on it. Recently on a highway it just stalled - acting if it had run out of gas although the gage read just below a quarter. Long story short, highway rescue put 2 gallons of gas in and my wife then drove to a nearby gas station and filled it with another 11 gallons. At that point I replaced the fuel pressure sensor. Today while doing errands with tank reading about a quarter and 100 miles until empty. It quit again! Put 2 gallons in that we were carrying in the car and started right up and runs fine. Can someone tell me what is going on and a solution? I don't think it's the fuel pump because as soon as you put fuel into it (2 gallons) starts right up and run fine. Is it the left tank sensor?
