is there any chance of cleaning the alternator connectors and spraying a whole can of DeOxit thru the alternator?

whats.the failure mode of the alternator/voltage reg?

im getting this intermittantly

By the time you get the message, the alternator is failing and needs replaced. Genuine Bosch only, AL0821X.

To get to the alternator on a V8 is pretty involved, enough so that I might suggest putting in a rebuilt alternator rather than trying to repair the original and having to replace it again after the fact.

If you have a decent amount of oil on the alternator, that's not going away as the source of the problem is your valve cover AND the timing cover leaking. I would say valve OR timing cover but I'm right this minute doing a second visit to my Ocean Race V8 to reseal the timing cover, a job that should have done two years ago when I did the valve covers.

If you're doing the work yourself, strongly consider a valve and timing cover reseal when you replace the alternator.
