1998 S70 GLT Flashing orange up arrow and fault code P0123

Post by rnelson1044 »

I can find no relationship between the PNP switch and fault code P0123, throttle position sensor issue. Do both of these areas need attention? They both popped up at the same time. I have tried rowing the "shift lever back and forth action" to no avail. Car seems to run fine although shifting seems to occur at higher than normal RPM's. Selection of S, E, or W does not seem to make any difference.
Thanks for any thoughts.

Sounds like trans solenoids. Do you have a scanner that can activate each solenoid?

TCM use data from TPS for proper shifting.
Gas pedal position,engine load...etc.

You will need to read codes from both...ecu & tcm with proper scan tool and not in universal "P" format.

Flashing orange arrow doesn't point just to pnp switch.
It indicates that tcm have fault code stored.

Since you allready have tps fault code stored...it's also a tcm fault code and transmission is informing you that fault code is stored with flashing orange arrow.

Thanks much. Good info; figured it was a bit more complicated than merely a bad TPS, which have replaced to no avail.

I have proper code reader, but, alas, it is defunct due to inability to upgrade software.

As Misha suggested, you need to know the proper codes. I went through a nightmare of this, but then my ABS module was bad throwing random codes as well.

The up arrow was on but the car ran fine. I gave up in the end and took it to the dealer. They found it was corroded contacts on the TCU and ECU in the black box behind the RH headlight. The cleaned it with Wurth contact cleaner and reseated both units several time to remove the oxide and corrosion on the pins. That fixed the issue. Simple when you have the equipment!
